recycle day

The girls and I hit the recycling center yesterday after school. I did not realize that Aimee had never been with me before. It was kinda neat to see her perspective on it. There are always the less fortunate there recycling for extra $$ for beer and some for food. There was a woman there who was a recovering alcoholic and drug user and she was trying to stay clean and was recycling as a "hobby" to stay away from her old crowd. She also was using the money to add to her WIC to have some extra goodies to eat. Aimee was speechless. That is a big thing for my little motor mouth. There were people just like us there to just doing their part to help the environment. We even ran into a neighbor down there!

After our bags of cans, plastic and glass we had made $35! Aimee was impressed with our take. The best part was that Becca then wanted to go take some of the money to the lady who was trying to help herself change. We did look for her but she had already gone. I was very glad that the lady had been so willing to share such a sad story with us because the girls actually listened. When you tell kiddos a story about how lucky we are to have the life that we have they take it as a bedtime tale all to often. Now they have seen that Mommy's stories are filled with truth. I hope it will give them a better perspective on those that are not as blessed as we are and that we should help them when we can.

Recycling was such a positive thing yesterday.
